Luz Lizarazo ingresa a la colección del Museo Reina Sofía con su obra ¨Piel extendida¨
Luz Lizarazo presents her work in the Artist Projects section at ARCO 2025. Through her practice, Lizarazo challenges the boundaries between drawing and installation, merging visual language with concepts of space, body, and identity. Her work is distinguished by an in-depth investigation of materiality and the interaction of elements. From sheer stockings to glass, bones, and metal, Lizarazo transforms everyday materials into powerful symbols, questioning how the body is represented and experienced. The choice of materials—often delicate, fragile, and vulnerable, yet also resilient and strong—underscores the complexity of the human body and its constant transformation. In her installations, each element takes on a central role and contributes to a dialogue about the body’s relationship with time, decay, and environment. Her drawings, in turn, enrich this conversation by offering abstract representations of the body and sensory experiences.
We are delighted to share the news that this week the Museo Reina Sofía acquired Extended Skin, reaffirming the relevance of her research within the contemporary art landscape and her ability to expand the boundaries of current artistic practice, inviting audiences to engage with a body of work marked by strong conceptual rigor and sensitivity.
“The skin is the largest organ of the human body, a tissue that envelops and transforms us. Through sheer stockings, I explore its fragility and resistance, dissecting it, sewing it, weaving it. In each reconstructed fragment, I seek not only to represent the body, but to inhabit it and extend its memory into space.”
