Casas Riegner Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Lo Informe y el Límite (Formlessness and the Idea of Boundary), by Colombian artist, Rosario López Parra. Here, the artist shows her most recent works where she links together some of the previous sculptural questions from 359º, White Fence and Abismo (Abyss). The interest in investigating the idea of boundary or border and its implications on the territory are still present.

This is a show that pretends to continue an investigation on sculpture and how it can affect the context that surrounds it. It invites the raising of new ways of making and thinking about art, having self-sufficiency and sustainability as parameters. For that purpose, a projection of sculptural prototypes that sketch new constructive models and which tend to the needs of usage and implementation in different contexts is made.

Rosario López studied Fine Arts in Los Andes University and has a Masters degree in Fine Arts from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in different parts of the world, including 359°, nominated for the Premio Luis Caballero V Versión in 2009, and Isufflare, at Nara Roesler Gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil and at Casas Riegner Gallery in Bogota, Colombia. Currently, she is a teacher in the Art Faculty of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá as well as the coordinator of the Masters in Fine and Visual Arts.

This is a very subjective exhibition, formed by curator Jens Hoffman’s own experiences in the region, his observations about the different cultures and the personal analysis of his own Latin American heritage.

Gasas Riegner Gallery proudly presents American artist Frances Trombly’s first solo exhibition in Colombia, A Point From Which to Start. The show is an investigation around the material in which some objects are made of and the attempt to replicate them exactly, to the point where they can serve the same functions as the real ones.

Her works have always been characterized for making reference to a certain material through very meticulous handicraft. In this opportunity her main interest is to reproduce these materials, turning mass-produced objects into unique artworks because of the qualities they acquire and the work they require. The artist’s pieces are the result of the merge of three disciplines: art, craft and design. The sculptures pay homage to works by other artists such as Kasimir Malevich, Brice Marden and Agnes Martin, at the same time that they question the roles that have been attributed to women such as weaving.

Frances Trombly has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in different cities in the United States. Her shows in Colombia include Papel (Paper) and Hecho a mano, el oficio en el arte (Hand-made, the trade in art), both group shows held at Casas Riegner Gallery.

Casas Riegner Gallery presents Colombian artist, Leyla Cárdenas’ exhibition Con Posición Descompuesta. The show includes photographs, installations and sculptural pieces that “explore, recompose and modify images and fragments of urban ruins”. She breaks down photographs into different pieces and rearranges them to allow the different elements that make the composition to be seen and appreciated. She uses the building’s natural aging process and structure as part of in situ installations where these are evidence of time-passing and memory.

Leyla Cárdenas keeps exploring themes that have interested her for some time. She intervenes specific spaces within the gallery. With sculptural pieces made in situ, the real condition of the architectural space is considered and incorporated into the work. Both literally and symbolically, she peels off layers that cover up the past of the building she works with.

This is Leyla Cardenas’ second exhibition at Casas Riegner Gallery. Her first solo exhibition Re movido was shown at the beginning of 2009.
