Gallery History & Program

After having built a name for itself in Miami in 2001, Casas Riegner Gallery opened its doors in Bogotá in 2005. Ever since, it has taken upon the challenge of promoting contemporary Colombian art at an international level, participating in the most important art fairs.

Casas Riegner Gallery holds year-round exhibitions consisting of two permanent programs, where two artists are juxtaposed to create a dialogue and encourage a critical discourse between them. Not only does this help disseminate the national artistic production, but also to bring foreign Contemporary Art to the local audience, providing a much wider range of ideas, as well as setting a fundamental exchange between emerging contemporary artists, a new generation of art collectors and local and international institutions. With its cutting edge projects it has quickly become a regular at the art events around the globe.

At the same time, the gallery is constantly hosting visits to the country from important foreign curators and museum directors, arranging studio visits and helping them get to know the local art scene for future projects at their own institutions. (Hans Ulrich Obrist, Jens Hoffmann, Tanya Barson and Mathew Drutt, to name a few.)

The gallery’s mission has been to show a fresh, new contemporary art scene to the world. Throughout these past nine years, efforts of hard work and dedication are reflected in the ascending participation of artists represented by the gallery in important international venues such as Venice Biennial, Sao Paulo Biennial, Poligrafica Triennial, The generational show at the New Museum, among others. The visibility of these artists in important publications such as Art Forum, Modern Painters or Wall Paper, to name a few, has also taken a poll.
