Casas Riegner Gallery is pleased to present the works of Mexican artist, Mónica Espinosa. The show, called El Peso del Mundo (The Weight of the World), talks about the things in the world that appear to be so obvious that have become invisible to us. We ignore it all and that is what allows those forgotten things that remain hidden to create worlds of their own without our permission or even our attention.
Mónica Espinosa points out, using different media, these relationships between ignorance and transition in a way that when in front of the work, we have the feeling of arriving too early or too late. the feeling that something has happened or is about to.
All the pieces share the sense of exposure of those everyday subjects to their own dimensions. We go from one moment to the next -as Marguerite Yourcenar says- from a concentrated state like that of the heaviest metals, to a free flowing state, like that of ghosts.
