Maria Fernanda Plata: “A ras”

Casas Riegner Gallery presents María Fernanda Plata’s new exhibition, A ras, where the artist explores the concept of being “barely”, like at the edge of something. All the works in this show are joined by a single element that has drawn the attention of its author: sand. That which is present at the birth and the ending of a structure, that which survives. Using this material the artist’s subtle pieces show up the fragility and the finite character of things, and the process that leads them to that termination. Using drawings, sculptures and installations divided in three major works, A ras is a project that deals with the vulnerability of human constructions, the presence of nature and its importance.

Needed to say that María Fernanda’s interest is not to bring attention to the disaster of these events, but neither to separate herself from the misfortune of those involved. The artist concentrates solely on the architectonic characteristics, which are always present in her work, this time giving some room to nature as well.

In her short career, emerging artist María Fernanda Plata, has had several group exhibitions in the country, such as Hecho a Mano, el oficio en el arte, as well as a few solo exhibitions that include Dibujo sobre Medida (Measurement Drawings) in 2007 at Casas Riegner Gallery.
