Casas Riegner is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by Colombian artist Teresa Sánchez.

Gathered under the title “Acoplamientos”, Sánchez’s new body of work features wooden sculptures constituted by sinuous elements that in their perfect coupling, allude to swelling ocean waves and evoke fluidity and movement.

The River (2006-07), an enormous sculpture made in yellow wood displaying undulating and sensuous forms inspired by the Manzanares River that crosses the city of Santa Marta, serves as a springboard for Sanchez’s current exhibition. For a period of two years, the artist continued her ongoing exploration of fluid forms consequently leading her to the creation of pieces characterized by a heightened prominence of curved lines and dynamic volumes.

Sanchez’s new artistic production involves the use of cedar, walnut and ivory wood all of which have been meticulously carved and transformed into simple yet elegant sculptures that resemble drawings in space and evidence the artist’s commitment to manual skill.

Teresa Sánchez was born in 1957 in Santa Marta, Colombia. She studied Fine Arts at Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano and Publicity at Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. She has had exhibitions both locally and abroad including solo shows at the Colombian Embassy in Washington D.C. (2008), Galeria Patricia Ready in Chile (2008-09), Galeria Casas Riegner in Bogotá (2006), Museo Nacional de Arte in La Paz, Bolivia (2003), and Museo de Arte Moderno in Bogotá (2003). Sanchez’s work has been featured in numerous group shows such as: “XIX Salon del Fuego”, Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño (2006); “Bordes del Dibujo”, Museo de Arte Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá (2006) and “XXXVI Salon Nacional de Artistas”, Bogotá, (1996). Sanchez currently lives and works in Bogotá.
